ALWAYS know that you are never alone and with God all things are possible!

Wow it's already February 1st! Today is such a special day: The start of Black History Month and National Wear Red Day in support of The American Heart Association. Heart disease is the number one killer of women. My best friend's mom succumbed to heart disease. Just seeing my friend go through the heartache of losing her mom to this silent killer made me more aware.
According to blackdoctor.org
The facts are clear. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US and the No. 1 killer of women. It kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, heart disease isn’t always easy to identify. The condition is often silent, hidden and misunderstood. For example, it is commonly thought of as a man’s disease. Or, as an older woman’s disease.

Common risk factors for a heart attack are smoking, high-stress lifestyles and obesity

Although this month is dedicated to learning and appreciating the accomplishments of our forefathers, make black history something you do 365 days a year.

A friend of mine came up with a challenge for the month to learn more about black history. Challenge yourself to read one book a week written by a black person about black people. I happily jump aboard! My reading choices for the month are:
1. J. California Cooper "Some People, Some Other Place"
2. Terrence LeVar Glave "Blackened"
3. Kimberla Lawson Roby "Perfect Marriage"
4. Toni Morrison "Home"

I read this article by GG of PeaceLoveandPrettyThings and it truly made me think about how to further better myself in 2013. Read below......
I understand why new year's resolutions get a bad rap, but there's nothing wrong with seeing the new calendar year as an opportunity for a clean slate. We just have to remember that a clean slate can be created with each new month, week, day or moment as well. Too often we don't start things because we're afraid we won't finish them. When's the last time you really challenged yourself? When's the last time something didn't work out? When's the last time you got up and tried again?

As we embark on 2013 people always ask or say what their New Years resolutions are. What are your resolutions? If you ask me I have to say this year I have none. 2013 is a year of change for me. Not the normal resolutions that I stop or give up by March but change that will affect my life for the better - To better "ME".

2013 should be different for us all. In every way we should improve and change things that we have done in the past. Not a resolution but a lifestyle change; A total reorganization of yourself so that you ensure that in this new year you are putting your best foot forward. Take time to make a list of your wants and dreams and strive to achieve them. Your wish could be as small as keeping your bills organized to starting your own business. Even if you only move one step closer, you are closer than you were in 2012. Take time to organize your life and manage your time so that you can be effective in your home, in a relationship, in your mind, and in your health.

Two things that I want to focus on for 2013: Being my own biggest cheerleader and putting health and fitness in the forefront of my life. I'm always the one that supports everyone else and at times I put myself to the back and forget about my wants and dreams. This year I will push myself harder than I ever have. You have to do something different if you want a different result; Well I want something different! So I'm planning to focus on what's ahead - no turning back! Health and fitness are important aspects in my life right now. Weight loss has been a long time struggle for me, but that ends now. I might have to scream and/or cry, but I will not give up. As a child my parents always told me I can do anything I put my mind to......Well it's time that I continue to strive to be that person God created me to be: A Beautiful, Healthy, Vivacious "FOXXY"!

Starting right now, I challenge you to look deep inside yourself. Take a minute to think about what you've always wanted or dreamt of and take one step closer to it. Continous reinvention is key to knowing and understanding the full "YOU"- Be the change you want to see in the world. Step out of your own way! Surround yourself with people that will not allow you to give up. When you need that extra push lean on them but know that God is in front leading the way. Always be your number one cheerleader and encourage yourself.......I'll be on the sideline cheering you on as well!

Much Love,
Foxxy
